Indeed. I also saw a report about social unrest in Italy but you never know if it's true. Doesn't surprise me though.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. A close friend of mine is a trauma nurse and she told me yesterday via text that patients are coming in with lungs that look like “Swiss cheese”. Interesting article on the numbers out of China. I think we all know they probably have been less than transparent about their actual numbers so far. www.rfa.org/english/news/china/wuhan-deaths-03272020182846.html

For some reason my QUOTE function is not and has not worked in several instances.
Anyway, Bixa,(re post #828) as someone said after Katrina about where would people from here go, their response was; "where would we go, and, who would have us?"
I briefly entertained going to visit my friend Maria in Miami but when she told me the beaches were closed completly as in even being allowed to walk by the water I immediately nixed that idea. I would go crazy !

Are you all doing anyport on phones or on computers? I don't know how some of the function work (or don't work) on phones & am not motivated to find out. Looking at the forum on the phone is too teeny & answering posts that way is a pain. More power to those of you willing to do so. If you're trying to use the forum's Quote function on the computer, are you absolutely sure you're doing it right? anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/7569/stuff

I’m using the safari browser. No changes in anything I’ve done the past couple of years while I’ve had this iPad. However, sometimes it doesn’t capture the quote. I haven’t been able to pin it down to a particular thread, or reason why it sometimes doesn’t work for me.

Could be the browser? That is a source of frustration and annoyance with the host forum for me. I've had trouble a few times with functions and when I go to Support they tell me "that function is not supported for the Opera browser". Oh really?! It's the 3rd or 4th most popular browser, but you don't care whether or not it can use all the functions? Humph. And Safari on iPad must be even more used!
Htmb, you may want to substitute the Quick Quote function when the Quote function won't work, although the QQ is more work on a tablet.
I'll see what I can find out.

Since families no longer have any access to nursing homes in France, I thought this video was quite touching as a way to let families see how the old people were faring. Of course, this will no longer be possible in a day or two, because all of the residents of nursing homes are going to be confined to their individual rooms until further notice. Frankly, I think this will kill more of them than any disease.

I just went to the bakery, taking the longer way around just to get out. Passed a couple of people and we all avoid each other to keep a distance. I find that the most difficult -- this obvious stepping away and around. I wonder how long it will take until we stop treating each other like lepers.
Many bakeries are closed on Mondays because they are open on Sundays, but I noticed that all of them are only open in the mornings now.

You are right Kerouac in thinking confining those old people to their rooms will kill them off fairly quickly. Just dying of loneliness and mental boredom. I don't think that's right. Just mask them up and keep them apart like your photo. The only way they're going to contract the virus is through staff members who go out into the public then come back to work. Maybe I'm wrong but how else would they fall ill as their families are not allowed anywhere near.

Just taken dog for a walk.
The river is still flowing, ducks still swimming, swan still nesting and birds still singing.
There is a normal world out there.

I access anyport on my husband's computer, my laptop, tablet or kindle depending on where I am and what else we're all doing.
My little sister has set up a WatsApp (that autocorrected to Gestapo btw) group and got my siblings and myself to join so now we're telling each other what we had for breakfast and what is on tv etc all day long...My older siblings have taken to it like a duck to water. Its been a life saver for the two girls who are high risk therefore not going out at all...

No matter how many precautions are taken, somebody is bound to slip up.

Having the appropriate PPE is still a huge problem here for carers and medical staff. To be fair I think that shop assistants working tills need gloves and masks considering the proximity of many customers over the course of the day. It's very difficult to maintain a 2m gap between you and the shop assistant when you're packing you groceries.

It is recommended here (Montana,USA) that we order groceries online (or by phone), then stay in your car while the workers deliver the good to your trunk (boot). I haven’t tried that yet. But won’t need groceries for another week.
The same process is being used for carry-out restaurant meals, though the boxed up food is placed on a cart at the door for you to pick up.
Deliveries are also available, sometimes using third party services like Uber, Lyft or others. Some cities are facing strikes by workers in the delivery business. They want free masks and gloves. And hazard pay.
Meanwhile Trump has acknowledged that Easter was “aspirational”, and has extended America’s shutdown through April 30.

I can't order online because I haven't got a credit card. Never wanted one, especially since the advent of debit cards. In any event it is useless as sometimes the backup is over a week. I have plenty of pantry staples; going out is mostly for fresh groceries. And I do need a bit of toilet roll... more for my nose than chair end. Normally I use cloth handkerchiefs and wash them. Spring allergies are so worrying as they can mimic COVID symptoms.

On the French news tonight, they found a new treasure trove of respirators. Veterinarians have quite a few of them and most dogs don't need them at the moment. Apparently dog respirators work just fine on humans with a few adjustments.

Apparently dog respirators work just fine on humans with a few adjustments. My vet told me that lots of animal medicines are human medicines in amounts & packaging for the vet trade. When I was in high school someone asked my boy friend why he was going out with a girl who looked like a collie. This should stand me in good stead if I wind up needing a respirator.

Interesting. Sweden has taken the opposite stance. No lockdown, only crowds over 500 banned, restaurants open. They think the economic consequences are worse than the illness. Who is to say they are wrong? We shall see. Not looking so good. Note that this is LINEAR, not logarithmic!
