I'm so happy & relieved that the right person was picked as the Democrat's vice-presidential candidate!

I would have liked Pete Buttegieg-- it's nice to hear someone who is articulate. I confess I know nothing about the guy who was chosen.

Bjd, I wasn't impressed by Buttegieg when he was a presidential contender -- nor by Harris, to be fair. But now it's all about what pres./vice pres. combination can beat Trump. I've been hoping for Walz, but feared that the Democrats' boneheadedness in reading not only the American people but their own registered voters would prevent them from seeing what good choice Walz is. Read his credentials & see how he could well appeal to voters who fear Democrats as "elite liberals". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_WalzSo right, Mick! This is all about not turning the US over to a dictatorship.

It also think Walz was a good choice. I’ve only heard him interviewed briefly, but he seemed like a straight-shooter, no-nonsense kind of guy. He also has a good bio with his long-time experience in the National Guard. Time will tell.

I have been following this and was hoping he would be the pick. She did have a list of quality candidates to choose from, I just liked his being in the National Guard, a teacher, a Congressman and Governor provides a varied life experience to bring to the position. Plus he is positive, intelligent and funny.

I knew nothing of Walz and was fearful that Kamala would make the wrong pick. Glad to hear so much positive feedback on the choice.
PS the pro Palestinian segment won’t vote for Kamala anyway, no matter WHO she chose as VP, so best to pick someone who can shore up the Dem base and make mincemeat of Trumps VP in a debate.
Presuming there ARE debates…

Well, there are people who loathe our support of Israel in its murderous, land-grabbing path, but that doesn't put them into some kind of blinkered pro-Palestinian camp. I felt Shapiro would have been all wrong for VP because choosing him would signal that Harris stood behind Biden's policies on Israel. It seems that much of the enthusiasm about Harris is the hope that she might usher in a bright new day. That's too much to hope for, but choosing Walz makes it seem less of an impossible dream.

The chosen chap, Walz seems like an all rounder, we all (our grand committee of three nosey Brits) thought that Harris would ask Shapiro (?sp) but we'd never heard of Walz.
Everybody here is terrified at the prospect of Trump...every time he opens his mouth to make yet another ridiulous statement we say 'WHAT? Surely he cant say that!' ... latest we heard was that if he wins he won't be limiting his time as President...that once he's in..he's staying....ffs.

I happened to have the radio on in the night because I couldn't sleep (The BBC World Service) , and the Trump - Musk twitter (twit being the operative word) rambling discussion was talked about...with snippets included. It sounded like 2 old drunk guys in a pub. Theyre both mad as a box of badgers.

I have a question about American politics since my information is 50 years out of date.
There is a lot of early/mail in/electronic voting now long before the actual date of the election.
If information or just a change of heart arises before election day, are you allowed to change your vote?

I really don’t care. It works for me. Our next election is this coming Tuesday. I am away from home, so I voted by mail two weeks ago. Our local Supervisor of Elections is super-organized and seems to do a great job of administering our elections.

But if you die after casting your vote it still counts, unless they reconcile the voting logs with the death notices ahead of when the votes are counted.

You all may have seen or heard this:
The New York Times Monday, August 19, 2024 3:57 PM ET BREAKING NEWS
George Santos, the disgraced ex-G.O.P. congressman, pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud and faces prison time.
The story goes on to say that his "... plea will allow him to avoid a trial on a total of nearly two dozen charges, it all but ensures he will face at least two years in prison."
Meanwhile, we allow a blatant, known traitor to continue to walk free & even to campaign for the highest office in the land. Disgusting.
