Strangest coincidence, too. Having just seen lots of pics of my old college boyfriend who I hadn't been in touch with for 30 years, he called out of the blue! We had a nice visit, once I got over how strange it was to be talking to him. He's grown up a lot in 30 years. Oh my goodness, Kimby ~~ that is really something! How very odd that he'd call right at that time. Do you know what prompted him to get in touch? Are you all doing a big splash for the anniversary, or something more intimate? He was visiting his Mom in our old home city, and on a whim looked in the phone book to see if my parents still lived there. Dad gave him my cell phone number. No big bash. Intimate family gathering with a slide show planned (if they remember to bring their slides!).

well mom's foot still isn't well, so we go to the museum on sunday, but probably not climbing, as today the weather isn't as good and the bf fears it might rain when we get to the rock.

Lots of catching up to do,my last couple days of holiday, then back to work Monday. The garden is a jungle as it rained every single day we were gone,at least one shower a day. Wielding a machete most of the weekend I'm afraid. Saturday is www.handsacrossthesand.com/

Friday in Wisconsin is Fish Fry night. (Lots of Catholics, so for many years fish was mandatory on Fridays. Now it's optional, but expected. Usually fried fish with cole slaw and french fries.)
Tonite we went to a fish boil (potatoes, cod, whole onions and carrots boiled in a huge drum over wood fire behind the restaurant.

News on the effing camera is good and bad. It's good that there is a solution. It's bad that I have to spend 300 pesos to buy a memory reader in order to be able to get pictures off the camera. *sigh*
What with the 50 bucks I spent a while back to have it repaired, and the 23 the reader will cost, I'm edging toward what the damned thing cost me to begin with.

Does a new camera beckon?
When we were in Ecuador a wave washed over the camera Mrs Faz had left just for a moment on the sand. It died. When we got back to Quito we took it to a shop where the man kept it for 24 hours, said it was fixed - and the bill was $100 (Ecuador uses US currency). That was steep, very steep. But he held the camera and waited for our money, so we paid.
The repair lasted most of the rest of the holiday then the camera failed.
We bought a new one.

Yes, Baz, I really want and need a new camera. However, I want to wait until I go back to the States where there are more options. The prices are better, too. I'm thinking something in the Canon PowerShot family.

Why not buy your camera over the internet, bixa? My sister and I just bought one for our niece for her High School graduation present. A Canon (model?) with extra memory chip and case for about $260 including shipping.

Or I can buy it in the States where I can look at a bunch of them and won't have to pay customs duties. Oh yeah ~~ I don't know where I got the idea that a PowerShot was @200 some-odd dollars. They start at 650 dollars.

Lots of plans this weekend to do some work around here. Trying to catch up after all the rain.Have some friends over Saturday night. Don't know about Sunday yet. Am hoping for a dry weekend (a shower would be ok,but not the relentless rain we've been having...) Oh,and definitely watch the soccer game!!!!

Company's coming. Mr. Kimby's cousin and his wife will be here for the weekend. They are flatlanders enjoying a week or so in the mountains. We plan to take them river canoeing, perhaps after visiting tomorrow's farmers' market.

It looks like a busy weekend here, although, yesterday,it was looking like I was going to have much time to myself and dedicate to the garden I am going to an art show this evening put on by the children of a summer camp where my dear friend has taught all summer,so,attesting to his brilliance (he recently did the artwork for Dr. John's new CD) as an artist,I can be assured that there will be some mind blowing stuff. I'm also curious to see what's going on inside the brains and psyches of todays youth. I will be sure and take pics should I be allowed. A couple of parties, one being the one year birthday of the baby whom I care for and have since she was 3 months old. Hope to be able to spend at least some time in the garden as it needs it.

Happy Birthday to the baby you love, casimira! One year parties are fun, I think. Of course the person of honor never remembers it but still.... It's about the people in the child's world getting together -- I can remember looking out at everyone at my son's 1st B-day and thinking about how they were his "village". Oh, and I recommend at one point you have her only in diapers or a onesie, give a big old piece of cake, and just let her go to town on it -- you can get the cutest pictures that way.
