That insight about the "village" is lovely, Livaco -- so much better than "peer group". I just want everyone here to know that I did something for my fellow anyporters, even though I had to sandwich it between two religious events it would have been rude for me to miss. another one of these - But after the last one, a memorial Mass and rosary, my dear, sweet landlady gave me a bunch of tamales! Happy to hear the rest of you are having or planning great weekends.

Yes,thank you Livaco for the nice message. A lovely concept. I wish I had a pic of her eating her very first fresh fig today...a treat unto itself to be able to share this experience. ( her mother hates figs,so,goodness knows when she would be introduced,I was the lucky one!!) Am trying to stay awake to be able to go out dancing tonight to our favorite local band playing just around the corner. you would think that they too being older, would start playing earlier,but,no...musicians will always be musicians I guess...

friday we did a little walk - about 15 km under really hot sun... well part of it was in the forest, but a big part was with no shade whatsoever (and of course only when we were almost done the bf mentioned that he isn't feeling well and is suffering the whole time - but he never cares to say that before, or say that he'd rather not walk, he always leaves it up to me... oh well)... wanted to see this one place and photograph it, near my bf's town as with him moving to berlin soon i might not get another chance... saturday was busy too as we celebrated bf's mom's birthday, today was more quiet, except for the later evening...

Recovering from smashing a toe yesterday. It doesn't seem to be changing color; that's a relief.

Well,it's Friday night already...this week buzzed by... Am working on a deadline,a garden project for a new wine bar opening real soon, too soon. Have had a design in mind, that's been shuffled back and forth between business partners and the architect,a real pain in the ass,NOW,last minute basically, they want it all done yesterday.... Enough about that... Hot as hell here, and will be trying to get as much done as I can with reference to the above, and try to find a place to swim, cool off,try to work on my costume for Midsummer Mardi Gras coming up in August. In other words, sewing in an air conditioned room!!!

If the French Republican calendar dating from the Revolution had been maintained, today's date would be 19 Thermidor, CCXVIII.

So glad to see this Friday arrive. A week ago I was coming down with a bug but didn't realize it yet. Having spent most of four days in bed or in the bathroom this past week, I'm just glad to be alive today and looking forward to the future. For a while, I wondered if I HAD a future!
Looking forward to a short visit this weekend from a friend we travelled with in China in 1995. Also looking ahead to another backpacking trip, this time in SW Montana. (Yes, bixa, I am keeping in mind future threads for the Postcards and USA boards ;D )
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Gad, Kimby -- a four-day flu?! You must be wrung out. Glad to hear you're feeling better. This week was busy, in part because of this, so my goal today is to de-slumify my house. As you see, it's quarter after ten in the morning and I'm huddled here in the computer's grimy corner.

You too Kimby. I 'm looking at the dreaded job of pressure washing the outside of the house of all this past years grime and yuck...it just simply has to be done. The usual busy work as well, nothing particularly special for us.

Should the rain ever dissipate,I will have to spend the next few days playing catch up in various places, gardens around town, and eventually,my own. It was lovely having a few days to play around the fort,do some cleaning, cooking, further purging, lounging and the like. But,being the restless creature that I am, need to get back outside soon. I have serious cabin fever!! Tonight is the official grand opening of the wine bar that I have been involved with helping in the design of from a horticultural standpoint. Although, nowhere near being finished from my end,it is a fabulous new and exciting place in our neighborhood. A very private fancy party is planned for this evening, much good food, wine, lovely people, and afterwards opening up to the general public with music and dancing!! I am very much looking forward to this but, know I won't stay long. Truthfully,it's not really my kind of scene.

I am bracing myself for the weekend. Tomorrow I have to give advice to a friend about what he should do with his dying mother. (He is the one asking for the advice.)

No celebrations here.
Waiting to hear how my Dad is doing as he was admitted to the hospital yesterday extremely disoriented and frail. He's 88 and until fairly recently was doing great.
I wish Montana wasn't so far from Wisconsin...

Thanks, Mick. It's the uncertainty that is so hard to deal with. Feeling in the dark so far away.
Plus Mom is losing short-term memory and relies on Dad to keep their life on track. If what he has - maybe it's just "old age" - isn't fixable, I think he'd vote to take the "big nap" right away rather than become enmeshed in the American medical system which takes extreme measures to prolong life, regardless of its quality. (He does have an "advanced directive" which instructs medical staff NOT to do that stuff, though.)

Casimira, glad to hear that what could be a grim anniversary instead will be an occasion of happiness.
Kimby, you must feel terribly shaken right now. It sounds as though your dad got to medical care quickly, though, which is good. Hope you hear something soon.
