Uh, is "August Bank Holiday Monday" another way of saying there's nothing to celebrate for such a long stretch, we thought we'd just throw in a nice holiday at the end of August?

Kimby, you must feel terribly shaken right now. It sounds as though your dad got to medical care quickly, though, which is good. Hope you hear something soon. Thanks for your kind comments. I have a open schedule today, so am sitting tight to the phone and email. Was able to call the hospital and talk to the nurse, who will be calling me with a report sometime today. Then spoke to Mom in Dad's room. She isn't a font of information, but it's reassuring to hear her voice and sense that she feels comfortable with his care. So, more waiting....

Re: holidays ~~ Mexico just celebrated the 200th anniversary of its independence from Spain. I went downtown for the occasion, and it was everything I could have hoped -- every kind of fireworks, starting with a lengthy rain of white ones strung all the way around the highest part of the cathedral, followed by massive starbursts, sky snakes, streamers, you name it. It was pure bliss.
Imec, that's the nephew who took the fabulous pictures of the town where the olympic torch was passed? Yaaaay.
Yeek, Kimby ~~ as I waited for the page to load, I only saw the bottom part of the page and the first part of your post: "On Friday I looked at Granite slabs" ......
One of my brothers lives in Granite, Oklahoma, known for the fine quality of its granite for tombstones. I was alarmed!

Oh gasp ~~ sorry, didn't mean to imply your parents, just sort of generic "sheeeesh, tombstones?" comment.

I want -- & desperately neeeeed -- to go to the library. While I was getting dressed to leave, it started raining. "No matter", I thought, looking at the nice blue sky showing between the clouds. "It will pass! ". It is BUCKETING down now, from a uniformly heavy gray sky.

I pretty much decided this afternoon to become the union delegate in charge of attacking my employer's nefarious plans. Only problem is that I am not yet unionized.

The Nuit Blanche is an ephemeral event of conceptual art that takes place in public places after dark. It is now held in 120 cities around the world, including NYC for the first time this year. A lot of people often confuse it with Museum Night, which is a completely different event that takes place in May.

In which port will we hopefully find photos of Nuit Blanche Kerouac? I am intrigued. (Hopefully photos are allowed?)
My weekend nights will be spent reading as I somehow have 3 books open... My husband will be at work at the Fire Department working night shifts so I should be able to finish at least one.

Thanks Bix! Kerouac, I missed that evening by about a week last fall!!! We would have enjoyed it tremendously. I will have to put this in my planner as a reminder. I am also going to research Toronto for this, as I am sure they have done this in the past or perhaps are still doing it? Will investigate. The lights in the boats and lake, the desk lamps bordering the stream and the umbrellas would have to be my favorites. I enjoyed the description of the use of the lighted disks inside the church being that of the stained glass windows. I look forward to your photos of the event this year! My books will pale in comparison, so I will be thinking of you and the 1.5 million out this weekend.

Well that did not take me long,
Nuit Blanche, Toronto is all it took on the search.
October 2nd, 2010 from 6:57 to sunrise there will be "130 free and accessible art projects within 3 zones of the city (primarily the downtown and waterfront) that will be a mixture of Exhibition Projects along with Independent Projects."
Hopefully our Toronto members will have an opportunity to take advantage of this event.

I can't believe a whole year has passed since that Nuit Blanche post!!! Sometimes,I feel like I am in some kind of time warp,it's hard to describe...the time either goes by so quickly,or real sloooooooow. Hmmmm. Odd indeed. Maybe,it's just me!! We have a similar hugely popular, arts event here in NOLA this weekend,Art for Art's Sake.I highly doubt that I will go. I have so much work to do in the garden, wielding the ol' machete, doing some pruning, weeding etc.Sweet peas and winter vegetables to plant...so much work. I hope to get out and do a little dancing tonight though. One of our favorite local bands is playing at the neighborhood saloon tonite. I will need a wee nap I think before though, as they start so late.
