A Spanish Shiraz that is so delicious yet one of the cheapest in the supermarket at £4.

I have developed a weird affinity for strong (50°) rum with a drop of grenadine and cola as an apéritif. Lots of ice of course.

I'm looking at a picture of a bottle of Chateau La Lagune 1983 on the cover of my recipe book.....and wishing I could afford to drink it. Instead I'll have to settle for something closer to home, like a Tall Horse Merlot.

I was thinking about my grandmother tonight, so I am having a Suze on the rocks. We often had that as an apéritif when I took her to a restaurant for lunch. (Otherwise it was a Martini Rosso.)

We had two bottles of wine this weekend -- a Saint-Chinian from Languedoc, which was not bad but then a really delicious 2016 Côtes-du-Rhône Villages from Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Continuing the festivities this weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a bottle of St-Emilion-Lussac, 2014, then a bottle of Saint-Estephe from 2015 and today some Crozes-Hermitage from 2018. Also some Canadian ice cider with dessert but it was not great. It was from 2010 so perhaps it's not supposed to keep that long.

Just the two of you or were there more people?
I had a desire for cognac yesterday and discovered that my Monoprix next door only had "good" cognac on hand for 50 euros instead of the "ordinary" cognac that I had bought in the past for about 18 euros. So I went without.

Not just the two of us! Last week 4 adults and 2 little kids, this weekend 6 adults and 4 little kids. Lots of food and cheese too, so the wine goes down well. When it's just my husband and me, a bottle of wine lasts us about 3 days or more.

I'm having rosé from Spain, sold at 1.15€ a litre. (I wonder what the price is in Spain!)

I just finished a Bohemia Cristal, which I had with lunch. Hmm, doesn't seem to be sold up here. Bohemia Clásica is favorite Mexican beer. Probably prefer the Clásicain any case.

I'm a huge fan of Pilsner Urquell, so Bohemia Clásica is a friend in need to me, as good old PU is unavailable.
The Cristal is a friendly middle-of-the-road beer -- refreshing and plenty beer-y enough without being outstanding.

I am having somewhat of a wild and crazy martini right now -- wild and crazy because I added an outlandish ingredient. Liquor outlets here have a certain amount of strange Spanish stuff which is cheap & unknown to me, which is how I came by a liter bottle of Basarana 20. It tastes somewhat like a fairly sweet sherry with a strong flavor of spices and, as a pacharan, it is suggested as a digestif. Anyway, the martini: Over 5 ice cubes in a shaker pour: 2 oz. The London No. 1 gin scant 1 oz. Martini & Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth generous 1/2 oz. Basarana 20 1/2 oz. water a single drop of orange bitters Shake & strain into a glass, adding one of the cubes from the shaker if you wish.

PU was my go-to beer before the local craft beer scene here exploded but I still buy and enjoy it.

I'm sorry we missed each other in Italy. We'll have to figure out a way to make that up when it's time to travel again. I'm quite ignorant about wine, but will happily try any beer.

The Edge of Autumn ~ by Bixa
over ice cubes in a shaker pour: 2 1/4 oz The Botanist gin scant 1/2 oz Dolin vermouth 5 drops Angostura bitters slice off of the top 1/4 of a Key lime (aka Mexican lime aka West Indian lime), squeeze into shaker & drop in the peel scant 1/2 oz water
Lightly shake the mixture & strain into a chilled martini glass. If you like olives, this is a perfect place to use one.

I'm not at all fond of beer, nor of mixed drinks.Certified wino.
Puglia is lovely, but I drank mostly white wine there, by the sea and a short ferry to Greece. I just did a round trip, as a graduate student with little cash for holiday lodgings.

It's amazing how easily I can convince myself that a Bloody Mary will be good for me because it is mostly tomato juice.

This year's Beaujolais Nouveau seems to me to be very good for once. This is the first time in a long time that I have bought it on the first day.
On the other hand, the price has almost doubled in the last 5 years.

Tried a different Beaujolais Nouveau tonight. Not quite as refined as the first one, but understandable since it was about 30% cheaper.

I believe I commented enthusiastically here on the artisanal gin with a mezcal base that I received for my birthday. It's been hoarded in with "the good stuff" awaiting some inspiration on my part. So right now I am enjoying something sublime -- what cold liquid silver would taste like, if it existed. Two ounces of Cura Males maguey gin + a single drop of Angostura bitters + 1/4 ounce of Dolin vermouth all jostled over ice cubes in a shaker, then strained atop a single olive in a martini glass. I couldn't be happier!
