Nice shot! Where were you standing when you took this?
I've actually never been. It's having renovations done right now, so I might as well wait a little longer.

Super photo, Lugg. It's not easy to get a shot that makes such an icon new to the eye again, but you did it.

Thank you Nycgirl - i took it from a boat , not the Staten Island ferry , although I have a bunch from that but I think from a NTC water taxi ? certainly I know it was a yellow boat because I took this moments before

Wow, Kimby ~~ that's a fabulous photo, beautifully composed. The very delicate gradations of color just "make it". (also a good example of the restrained palate)

Gorgeous photo, Kimby! You have a great eye.
K, love the statue of the confident, voluptuous woman. I've seen a similar sculpture by Lachaise at the Met.

Thanks, folks. I was quite surprised it turned out so well, as I was on skis when I took it. It's at Whitefish Mountain Resort (f.k.a. Big Mountain), in Whitefish Montana, not far from Canada. There is probably a photo of the front side of this statue earlier in this thread. There is a big controversy about this religious sculpture being placed on public land (forest service land leased to the ski area). The statue has been there over 60 years, and its supporters claim it was a WWII memorial placed in honor of the 10th Mountain Division, a skiing unit of the American armed forces. Others claim that story is a crock, and that it doesn't belong there. I don't like it, myself, but it sure made for good lens material.

Exquisite photograph, Rikita. Love the strong verticals and crossing arches with that perfectly placed statue in the foreground.
