Yeah, I read the same story in the Guardian. I'd love to see Melania charged with something.

I'd be happy to tell that bastard I'm pro-abortion, though that isn't actually factual. The point is that it's our choice (though some of those so-called "pro-life" nutters would force even women with ectopic pregnancies to carry out the pregnancy: meaning a dead mother and a dead foetus...)
Moreover, he should look in a mirror before he crticises other people's looks.

Hey, we're having a Papal Visit! Obviously for regrets and amends for the prisons "residential schools" where Indigenous children were made to unlearn their languages and cultures, and were sometimes physically or sexually abused. Not that the Cono Sur region Frankie hails from is exempt from such histories of mistreatment... He's visiting Québec (the city, and the basilica at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré), Edmonton in the West and Iqauluit in the Far-North. Not Montréal. www.cbc.ca/news/politics/pope-canada-visit-vatican-announcement-1.6448229

Of course I keep thinking of all the school kids slaughtered by the gun nut in Uvalde...

Well, we no longer have the death penalty either, and it would do nothing to restore the lives/health of the victims or relieve the sadness of their families and friends.
Is Salah Abdeslam French or Belgian? It seems their old neighbourhood has changed quite a bit since then.

Gabinetto is more an aged joke than a sign actually used at "public conveniences". As for Her Majesty, while I'm no Monarchist, imagine having to deal with Boris Johnson and Prince Edward on the same day

In Italian, a government cabinet is, of course il gabinetto. However, this is also the term for public toilets...

I also have a proper oven for the fist time in many years, because its owner, a coop member, died. I don't do much sweet baking, though. More pizza, flatbeads and savoury tarts, but more often for roasting and grilling.

Indeed, Canadian gun laws (or at least regulations) were tightened after the two latest US massacres. Buffalo is right on the border and not very far from Toronto.
For Fox News, no-go zones in Paris were those inhabited by Black and Brown people. I guess if the victims were Black or Brown, that doesn't count.

Bixa, Maxima is spectacular (Latina after all). But as we must never forget, her dad was a henchman of the evil dictatorship in Argentina. Staging phony wars against the equally evil dictatorship in Chile as they returned opposants to their respective countries of origin. Maxima is blameless, but it is quite a heritage...
I know quite a few refugees from those countries and even from Uruguay, with approx the same population as Montréal.

Thanks so much for this, I've also sent the French version to friends here - one (who is not remotely Haitian or otherwise of African descent) has studied Haitian Creole, a language one hears every day, everywhere in Montréal.
Obviously, it's a tough read.

I'm lucky not to need blinds or drapes in the front room, intended as a salon but mostly used as a study and home office. There is a very large Norway maple outdoors, which acts against glare and sharp summer heat. Our coop is made up of typical Montréal triplex, and the house across the street is only two storeys. I checked from their balcony; they can't see my interior.
There are also several good-sized houseplants on a table by the window.
Sudden warmth and the new green leaves have just emerged en masse!

Obviously Mesoamerica is a source of the majority of our current bean varieties, but are those (cute) small white beans found in Mexico and Central American countries?
Pulse crop production has been on the rise in Canada in recent years.

I know that Soviet war veterans are getting thin on the ground for obvious biological reasons, but they certainly included Ukrainians as well as Russians, and citizens of other Soviet republics - who have also celebrated the 9th of March. fFr All wars are horrid, but this is a particularly ludicrous one, up there with Freedonia.

I feel the same about the oaks. Notre Dame is extraordinary, but ancient oak forests are also an important legacy.
And admit to sadness about Hidalgo's paltry presidential score; she has accomplished much towards making Paris more liveable and sustainable, and many other major cities have much to learn from these from these accomplishments.
